Dahlia tubers

i noticed dahlia tubers being sold in packs in a local diy/ garden centre. I've never grown them before but saw them in a local national trust garden last summer. Do do these tubers have much success? Is this the more common way of buying them or are the for sale later in the year as potted plants? Its the Landaff ones…
