compost

I have 3 large bags that I use for growing potatoes and it takes a lot of compost to fill. Can I re use the compost if a suitable fertilizer is mixed in and would a slow release one be best?

Yes you can. I'd use it for seeds as they don't want a lot of feed in the mix. If your'e going to use it for pots, then add a slow release fertilizer, or you can use it as a mulch or soil improver.

I tip used compost from plant pots onto my compost heap, then chop it up with a spade if its solid with roots.

I grow potatoes in an old bath so I have a lot of old compost. I have a shallow bed, that I have been building up. I tip mine in there along with old pots or seed trays I have given up on. Occasionally find the odd potatoe or surprise plant.
