Cannas

I bought some canna plants at back end of 2013 & kept them over both winters in frost free greenhouse; planted them out last spring but altho' they grew well & looked healthy they never flowered.

Would appreciate some advice as to how to encourage the ''darlins'' to bloom!

Ever hopeful,

Cannas need plenty of food and verdun has it right, start early plenty of goodness in the pots and lots of sun and moist conditions. You'll get flowers.

Thats great news---many thanks. Just 3 things----

1] when do I start to feed & water? [I live in Beds]

2] which sort of feed is best?

3] when does one place them outside? Im sure I did it in May last year.

    Once again, many thanks.

Well if you have a greenhouse, start them off in March. Get some well rotted manure, mix it with topsoil or compost and start watering them. I use FB&B, and add a tablespoon at the same time well mixed in. By May they should be well on their way, where I am I don't put them out till mid May, but you may be able to get them out a week or two earlier down south, just watch out for cool temperatures and frost. Don't be in a hurry Feed regularly in the summer. I feed with liquid seaweed.
