Leaking birdbath

I have just noticed a leak in the birdbath.  It probably doesn't help that boiling water is poured in it most mornings lately to de-ice.  It is either concrete or reconstituted stone and I wonder if anyone has any advice on what I could seal it with that is bird friendly?

One of those sealants that go round windows to seal the gap? I'd go to a building materials warehouse and see what they've got for sealing anything to concrete.

Thanks nut, I'm going out to scrub it because I can't see a crack while it's half full.  I just know it's dripping.

Is it the birdbath in your avatar?

It is Doveimage. This turns out to be a waste of time because when I scrubbed it the whole top disintegratedimage.  I have put a pottery top on the remains for now but hope to get something to fit the base.  Just realised that it is 10 years old -  I'd have guessed threeimage.   They should last longer though.

The robin who thinks this is his personal bath on the patio is in for a shock.

Time flies. But you're right, 10 years isn't long for concrete or reconned stoneimage

  • My Ma-in-law used to make her own, with a length of drainpipe and an upturned metal dustbin lid coated with cement. Looked good, not sure about lifetime, but I guess could be patched up if need be.

  • If you look in bnq there are a few paint on sealants or you could use Chinese sealant.
