Feeding Amarylis
in Plants
A gardening prog told listeners that we should be feeding Amarylis from when they start to produce a flower stem. But they didn't say what with! Should I use a general purpose feed, or would tomato feed be better. And should this feed be full strength of 1/2 strength? I have 2 Amarylis producing flower stems. Thanks Mags

During the summer mine did not die back and had green leaves all the time . I fed once a fortnight with comfrey . Now they are in flower they get tomato feed once a fortnight
thanks to you both. will feed them with baby bio now as that's what I've got. Mags
I am feeding mine with Baby Bio as well. I bought the bulb to give to a friend, in flower, for Christmas, but it has only just started showing the flower bud.I will give it to her for her birthday in 3 weeks time, if it is ready or has lasted that long.
How do you treat the bulb and leaves once the flower spike has finished. The bulb is feeling quite soft now where the stalk was removed but surely the leaves still need to feed the bulb for next year. Do they need to dry out completely, if so when? Any after flowering advice greatly received for optimum performance again next year.
Help please.
A friend helped me in the garden and there was/is a clump of amaryllis, about 2 x 3 feet. And he has cut all the leaves off - I'm told that this is not a good thing as they need the leave to feed the roots for next years flowers.
What can I do to save them. Also how do I divide the clump safely and replant elswhere in the garden?. thank you
I thought amaryllis are houseplants? I'm guessing you must be in Cornwall? I once planted one outside after it had finished flowering in spring and the slugs ate most of it! Sorry I can't help you. Mags
These are in Suffolk south facing small front garden well protected.
