I'd prune it in March. Any lanky bits can come off to give it a solid framework to sprout from.

  • I leave my orange and lemon trees outside winter and summer, only bringing them into a conservatory if really bad cold weather is forecast.

Overheating is probably the main cause of leaf drop, plus sudden change of temperature and scale insect infestation. I had scale insect on mine once, I treated them with a soft artists paintbrush, a cheap childs one,  painting every growing tip, branch and the backs of every leaf by brushing with the paint brush which I dipped in alcohol. My choice was vodka which I was given and do not drink. Leave for 24 hrs then wash the plant clean with warm water to which a drop of very cheap washing up liquid has been added.

    The scale insects died happy.

  • Hi my Orange tree has just started showing signs of growth can any 1 tell me if I should chop these 1s off or how to stop them growing.

Why do you not want it to grow?

  • Just rub those little buds off with your thumb ... that way your orange will remain a 'standard'  or 'lollipop' shape.

  • Thank will do there all the way up will they chep come back ?

  • They may do or they may not ... but you don't want them to do you?  You want to keep the tree as a 'standard' shape with a clear stem ... that's right isn't it.
