Bonemeal was, and still is, used for planting bare root roses during winter, as you wouldn't want to use BF and B at that time of year.... personally I no longer use this either...

I'm surprised anyone would want to use mycorrhizal fungi when planting Heathers as it doesn't work with them.... it's a waste of money....I had you down as rather more frugal Verdun...

....as preparations usually contain both Ectotrophic and Endotrophic fungi, which can be used with most plants...trees, shrubs, grasses....  Heathers need Ericoidal fungi which can only be got from the soil... the other two types are useless for it, likewise Rhododendrons and Azaleas... however, surprisingly, it can be used with Pieris and Skimmias...

..Brassicas are another that show no benefit...

There is far too much faffing around these days, too much on the market to get you to spend your money.

The most I ever use is chicken pellets and homemade compost for mulch. Nothing wrong with my garden.

I know certain plants dont grow well here, being 960ft above, and always windy, but I plant what I like and it takes it chance. Roses are not brilliant, the air is to clean and pure, so they say anyway!

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
