Viburnum Fragrans

I planted a viburnum fragrans by my front door 3 years ago. It has grown wonderfully well. It's lush and just over 3ft tall. It looks healthy, but it has never flowered! Any ideas or advice very welcome. Thanks.

    Have you been feeding it?

  • I did initially, but not this year.

  • I've been very cross for at least a year. So looking forward to its delicious fragrance as the key goes in the lock!

  • perhaps it's time for some coaxing and encouraging words?

you didn't prune it did you? I think it flowers on last years growth - somebody will put me right if that's wrong!

I don't think it flowers on new wood gg, I think you're right.

Also 3 foot is small for a V f that has been in situ for 3 years.

  • just been down the garden and see that mine now has flower buds - have a look at yours in the next day or two and see if anything is happening.  It had grown so vast that we decided to cut it back hard but left two or three tall branches as |I could not bear to be without the scent  this year.

I prune a few old branches right to the base when it looks as though it needs it. This gets more tricky as time goes on
