I have one and have had it for about 3/4 years. I am very happy with it as it always does what I ask of it, which is a lot more than the makers intended! I have hardly anything you can call a lawn, but a lot of rough grass, mostly sloping and some very uneven. On the better bits it gives a good finish, collecting all the clippings and is very good at getting close to walls and edges. I have never used it at the lowest setting. I use it to mow paths through long grass and to mow the meadow at the end of summer. I use the highest setting in the early part of the summer to tidy the areas either side of the paths, which are mown shorter. I also use it set on high, minus grass box and rearing up like a circus pony, to tackle really long grass. It does it all without complaint (so far).
It can struggle with wet grass, which tends to clog the grass box inlet, but I think most will do this to some extent.
The most annoying thing is emptying the grass box which fills up really fast on this fairly small machine, unless you mow twice a week. I have also used the Rotak 38 which needed slightly less frequent emptying, but it is a trade off between that and ease of use and handling, as both suffer with a heavy, full box, especially as a lot of mine is up and down slopes. I did smile at the operating instructions never to mow up and down a slope. Even if I mow side to side, I can still be working up and down, have they not heard of 3 dimensional space?
A small niggle is the cable, which is not very flexible in cooler weather (most of the time where I live) which means you have to be extra vigilant, as stray loops sometimes get in the way, even though you have flipped it back, supposedly out of range. The old Flymo I had before did not have this problem, so it must be the plastic used.
Hope this helps.
Some mowers cut long/wet grass better if pulled backwards.
I agree pretty well with Buttercupdays. Cant say have noticed a cable problem, just sling it over my shoulder. I do however have to use 2 extension leads ,to reach far end of lawn, so a longer cable would be good.
I tend to use medium setting most of the time. The shortest level 'scalpe' my greenpatch/lawn. Uneven in places & sloping. Old garden very uneven & worked a treat. Mind you I dont 'do' pristine lawns.
What I do appreciate is it is lightweight. I have problems with my arm & find that it is comfy to use even for a long while these days. I also need to lift it up/down some steps & minus the box no problem.
When this 1 dies I shall happily replace with another. Will need the bigger version though as nowadays have a lot more 'lawn' to deal with compared to previous house, J.
Thanks jo4eyes and Verdun.
Does anyone think that this mower is suited to medium to large size lawns??
