Laburnum Trees

I have a very old (60 years, maybe more) laburnum tree in our family home which seems to have some disease and is dying off. Is there anything I can do to help or rescue?

It's branches and it's spread to one of the trunks (there is a fork in the trunk). It's sort of a gold colour on the bark and the bark has stripped off one of the trunks so it's silver. The laburnum seeds and leaves on many of the branches have turned black.  From what I've read, it looks like a bacterial infection but it also seems that we've been lucky to have had it that long in any case?  Don't think I have any photos of it but will see if I can take some in the next couple of days.

  • Have a look at this thread Ms P, which came up last summer:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
