Plant ideas for summer!

Hi guys! As everyone here already knows, I'm quite a newbie at all of this, so all the help is really appreciated 
I want some really nice flowers to brighten up my balcony during summertime. It gets full sun and can get really hot during the summer since it gets a lot of warmth from the buildings around me (We're very central in Southampton).
Does anyone have any suggestions? Our balcony is already home to a full crop of garlic plants

I think it's the worm tin Edd's talking about, not your question.
I had some double pink scented petunias, forgotten which, but think they were "Tumbelina", flowered all summer and smelt lovely, especially in the evening. Can grow from seed.
