Over 8 years I have been given 2., 5 year N. T. diaries....They have separate columns for weather ...whats in flower.....tasks to do. You can see each week for each month of each year at a glance. This makes it easy to keep up and also very interesting to be able to see what was happening at the same time of year over 5 years. I started writing it when we moved here and gradually it has recorded all the trials and tribulations as well as the triumphs of developing a much neglected garden. There is space for photos too and other notes. I like to note mistakes I have made in an effort not to make the same ones too many times ! I also write little reminders so that I am not too late with the seasonal jobs. Looking back is very entertaining and comparing weather conditions over several years it is amazing how our weather patterns vary.
All diaries lost in greenhouse flood and freeze, fortunately recent years saw me just keep them in my note folder of ipad but I have lost stuff i can't remember about!
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.” A A Milne
I kept a 5 year diary too, found it both enjoyable and useful, However there came a point in every year when the entries tailed off as I was just too busy keeping up with the garden. I still try to make note of things that need to be moved or pruned in a little book I can slip in my pocket. What I do now is every 3 or 4 years take photos on the first of the month, of all the different parts of the garden, whether they look good or bad, as well as my usual 'these are looking great' pictures celebrating different plants. Looking back over the photographic record points up the difference in the seasons in different years. It provides encouragement with before and after views and a galvanizing kick when I see how long something has needed doing and is still undone!
..rather similar to Buttercupdays above there.... mine also tails off usually about June, so it's more of a Spring early Summer note keeping.... photos provide the rest and I have lots of those...

How upsetting LilyP - that sort of stuff is irreplaceable
