Can I put the seeds from Ash trees in to my compost bin, will they break down or will they still grow trees? As my back garden gets covered in them all year round, several trees all around in neighbouring gardens. I would like to compost the leaves but there’s so many seeds. Had to put artificial grass down and just use potted plants to make it easier for pulling them out.
If you are using a product like Resolva Pro Tree Stump and root killer, or the Roundup equivalent, on saplings with no leaves cut back and if thick enough split, apply between October and March. The sap should not be rising and the stump will be more absorbent. If using on a leafy sapling or thick rooted leafy weed, wait until March or after as the product will be absorbed through the leaf and circulate that way very effectively. They come with either a dose measurer or premeasured sachet, so just mix in a handsprayer and apply (don't forget the Marigolds though!).
I would not compost any weed with seeds, compost bins do not get hot enough to kill them. Tree seeds especially can be a total pain. The squirrels bury acorns and the occasional walnut if they can get in my compost bins, they all start growing. Avocado stones will start growing. Just don't . If that means the leaves go to the council in brown bins then so be it.
Not really. All the threads, old or new, appear on Google and other search engines. So anyone searching for how to prevent ash trees might see this thread pop up.
