Spring bulbs -too late ?

in Talkback
I have a space that can take some tall flowers at the back and wonder if too late to plant up spring bulbs ?

Not really, You can buy them in pots for planting out now. Bulbs which are normally planted in Autumn can go in now, they will just flower later. Don't leave it much longer though.
Or you could buy some spring bulbs that are already potted up and growing, and sink them into the ground. Then after they've flowered you can take them out of the pots and plant them.

I haven't planted some of my bulbs yet, I have alsorts to plant and will be doing them this week, I'm putting them in pots and will leave them in the GH as I think it may help them 'catch up' the ones planted. I am then planning on sinking mine into the borders.
I am doing it this way because I am rubbish at digging up bulbs that I have planted when I can't see them!!

the ones I put in last week are already pushing through - don't forget to water them once you've planrted them.
Ooh thanks GG, I better get my backside into gear and get them planted......I think the kitchen may well become a potting shed tomorrow!! I even have hyacinths not planted - oops
The advantage of planting in pots is that you dont have the dreaded green leaves going soggy in the garden when you want to plant other stuff in there.
I planted some Allium Gladiator straight into the border yesterday using my trusty bulb trowel which sank easily through my sandy soil. The packet says plant through Sept-Dec so what's a few days late err?
Thanks all, never even thought of buying potted up ones d'oh !! off work today, so will go and be creative
