I always thought Mahonia charity was very hardy Obelixx, but Belgium is much colder than most of the UK, unless you live up a mountain. Certainly does fine where I live. I have Mahonia soft caress, in fact 3 of them Verdun. Love the foliage and the feel of it. Like Coryline, some winter sun and a sheltered site then they are hardy. I'll post a pic if it helps?
I was "forced" to make an unscheduled stop at a local GC today and "accidently on purpose" had a look around the reduced section.
Fatal.
Then I "had to make a detour" around the rest of the plants, of course, must keep up with current stock etc., and came across Mahonia Soft Caress which I have never seen before. Lovely foliage but I resisted buying one as they seemed a bit spindly, perhaps that is the natural growth pattern. It would probably be hardy in Cornwall but I would like to see a mature plant growing before investing in one.
I ended up buying 2, 3ft tree heathers for £2.50 each, a yellow kniphofia for £1.50 and an unreduced black stemmed bamboo, have been looking for a good colour break for ages. They have all seemed more dark green than black but this plant is definitley Niger. I took out a second mortgage on a pair of ankle high, fur lined welly walking boots and a large box of seaweed feed.

Some pics of my Mahonia eurybracteata 'soft caress'
Here's my promised pic - doing well in a pot atm, but not as big as blairs
Hi Verdun,
A 10L of Soft Caress is for sale via Coblands for £25 delivered:

I certainly recommend them and their plants and 10l should be a large well established plant.
