Brown spiky growth on pear tree leaves
Hello all, we have a nice big pear tree in our garden in south London which produced a lot of pears last year. In the late summer a spiky brown growth started to appear on many of the leaves. It's a rusty orangey brown colour and looks like a cluster of little bubbles on one side of the leaf, each with a sort of spike at the end. The whole thing is maybe a little less than a centimetre across. Can anyone help me out with ideas on what this could be and how to prevent it? We also had maggots burrowing into many of pears from the bottom, don't know if that's connected. Many thanks in advance for any pointers, I'm a novice so please use small words

Remove the leaves and burn them rather than compost them. If the leaves have fallen collect and burn. It's a fungal thing (some sort of rust I think) the spores overwinter on juniper then move to the pear tree. Mine had it the last two years, I remove effected leaves straight away to keep it under control but my tree is still small. It can reduce vigour and fruit yield if left unchecked. Not sure about your maggot issue sorry.
