I have just bought a home that fronts onto the sea. Trouble is, I have no idea what will grow Here!! Looking for something simple that will grow continually in these conditions.
Armeria maritima (sea thrift) is an obvious one but as I live in the Midlands I'm hardly the best to advise, I'm sure you will get lots of good advice from those who live on the coast.
Silvery leaved plants so I've read are ones that cope well with seaside conditions like thrift, convolvulous (not sure if I spelt that right) lavender. Would also be a good idea to have a walk around your new neighbourhood to see what is growing in the gardens too.
Cistus x purpurea (rock rose) will flower non-stop throughout the summer forming a lovely mound of colour and it's perfectly happy in coastal conditions.

Which coast is it Barney, may be you will grow different plants if you are in Cornwall on the Atlantic coast as you would on the North sea coast.
