Red Admiral

Lily PillyLily Pilly Posts: 3,845

We have just found a red admiral butterfly upstairs.  What do we do with him?

I think we should put him with the large plants in the upstairs window. OH think the porch where he can get out if he wants but have two large bay trees to shelter in.

what would you do? He is a beauty!

They come to hibernate in our homes in the autumn, then we turn the heating up around Christmas and wake them up.

A quiet dark corner in a frostfree garage or shed is the place for them.

They won't survive in a warm house. image

  • I recently found a cardboard box in an outbuilding with about a dozen tortoiseshells....one flew off, but it was a mild day so hopefully it is OK somewhere else.

  • Gone to God by now I'm afraid.
