Caterpillars in December?
I have brought my two rose geraniums into the conservatory for the winter and noticed that one was starting to look a bit unhappy. At the same time, I noticed lots of tiny black balls all over the windowsills near my houseplants, which made me think caterpillars had been around! I couldn't find any damage to the houseplants despite the evidence suggesting they had been around.
On closer inspection of the pelargoniums, I found two small green caterpillars nestling in amongst the sad-looking one, in a silky nest. Several leaves on the healthy geranium had been stripped and another caterpillar was found there.
They looked like sawfly larvae but I'm not sure - isn't it a bit early for them?

I'm still finding tiny green caterpillars on my pelagoniums that I brought in to overwinter. I have the same black bits on the windowsills, it helps you to trace them!
