I find if you grow them really hard when they are young (ie pinch out the growing tips at least 3 times) then you get much sturdier stemmed plants that support themselves much better when they are planted out. I don't normally sow mine til March either, and that stops them getting too leggy as seedlings.
keep them where they will get plenty of light and when it comes to mar-apr, plant them deep. i normally use mine as gap fillers and they dont need any supporting.
I pinched mine out as soon as soon as I planted out, I bought a cell of them so they weren't that big. Planted them fairly close together (20cms) and they all supported each other.

Copy that Chicky also i used the fence to help as they can grow quite tall,iv got the seeds from this year and hope to get a great fence full
