Helleborus Washfield Queen

  • Got some info back from the nursery- they say they think it is the correct plant, there was quite a bit of variation in the stock and it may need another season to colour up...

I don't know what they mean by variation in the stock but I guess I'll just ignore it for another yearimageimage

Was it a reliable hellebore nursery or might it have been seed raised from Washfield Queen and could have crossed with anything?

  • Hi Nut,

The nursery isn't a specialist hellebore nursery - they are well known for another perennial - I was shopping for something else at the time.

I didn't ask if it was raised from seed. How would a hellebore be propagated to ensure it was true? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question - I assume cuttings or splittings...image

Yes, cuttings and division keep a named hybrid/cultivar true. The genes for whatever they were bred from are all in there and any could show themselves in the seedlings.

Verdun , you really are a master at getting results!

I followed your (and others) advice about my coal and it worked so I think you should start a thread about Rights and Returns!image
