  • I have grown these cleomes too.   The seeds took some finding, though, as not every garden centre seemed to stock them.    They are lovely and grow quite easily.

I shall be growing the 'Sparkler' series for next season.... incidentally, they are no longer called Cleome's...officially that is... now Tarenaya Hassleriana... if you like...

I think I will stick to Cleome, couldnt say that lot!

I found they were better sown a bit later, Start of April, they grow quite quickly once they are up and its not worth planting out too early, they dont like cold. They will flower right through till Autumn, beware of tiny caterpillars shredding the leaves.

I think its amazing the amount of seeds they produce, I may grow them the year after next, problem is the wind here, and they grow about 4ft tall.

  • stick with the name we all know and understand.....unless you're running a botanical garden and need a bit more precision

just fancy if we'd told Lynn that we thought her plant was a taramesalata thingy - though she'd probably have laughed!

I was totally amazed with my plants when they kept on growing once they'd flowered. I did make the mistake of leaving some seedlings out and the frost got them but they do grow very quickly.

If anyone is trying to find seeds, Sarah Raven sells them as I was given some packets of them as present

Ebay has them quite cheap, I buy seeds from Premier seeds.
