Bossy Birds!

  • Yes indeed. We've always had at least one cat until recently but we don't have any neighbours to annoy! We didn't replace our most recent one because we travel a lot so it didn't seem fair but it has made growing vegetables a continuous battle against the rabbits, voles and other wildlife which have encroached since - not to mention the increasing number of rats. I'm sure I'll find some solutions and a decent balance in time....

It's always double edged, my neighbours cats have saved me the expense of canes and spiral guards for my new hawthorn hedge. They killed all the young rabbits in the summer. Ironic really considering I put it in as one of measures to discourage cats coming into the wildlife garden. image

  • Some interesting Swedish research on Great Tits suggests that while males are the bullies around the feeders the females make up for it by having better memories and becoming better sneak thieves! See here

It's no wonder my OH never knows which cupboard to put the shopping away in or what goes in the freezer. image
