Thank you everyone for your advice. I intend to ask about the source of the shred dings but I expect it is mostly the dreaded Lelandii. Just as well it doesn't spread like Japanese knotweed or we would all be living in a forest! Have a peaceful solstice and a wonderful gardening year next year.
And do bear in mind that Conifer shreddings make the soil more acidic,so you may need to add a little lime to keep the soil neutral, unless you are growing Rhododendrons.

She likes shredded branches as mulch woodland areas/shrubs uncomposted but not so much for veg plots.
