They are such simple plants to care for, which does make them easy to neglect! My mother had one for years (I think it was her mothers originally) and it never flowered, we stumbled upon the "secret" (link below) to yearly reflowing and its been an annual treat the last few years. That's a really good website
As it says, I put my Christmas cacti outside every summer and a huge number of blooms just before Christmas every year and again in the spring.
