A little privacy...

TantyTanty Posts: 59

Hi

I'd like to grow something above my garden wall to encourage a little privacy.  It needs to grow to about 6ft tall (ideally a little more) and be happy to live in a container because the ground at that point is almost solid rock.  I don't mind if it's flowering or scented or colour changing with the seasons, I just want to create a screen above the top of the wall.  I had thought about trellises and climbers but feel that would spill into my neighbour's garden and may not be what they want, but if it was something pretty, maybe they'd love it!

Any suggestions would be amazing, thank you.  The troughs in question are about a metre long and 0.4m deep and high.

Thank you image

I don't think you're allowing enough room for roots to develop for a larger shrub/hedge. Can you not get a larger trough?

Trellis and climbers would have the advantage of instant screening (if you use a dense trellis with small squares). You could then plant something relatively non rampant to clothe it, say Clematis alpina.
