Growing beans; broad, runner, derby (derby).
in Fruit & veg
i got a beanstalk growing kit last christmas and decided i'd wait for the summer, but it got lost in my room and forgot about and i found it and impulsively planted it realizing it's winter. it's an indoor kit but i understand it needs to go outside at some point (runner beans grow to 6 foot??) i'm guessing the earliest i could put it outside is March which is 13 weeks away, would the plants hold off until then? they have begun to germinate, is there a way i could suspend this?

The broad beans can go out much earlier if they are accustomed to lower temperatures before they go out permanently.
Best of luck with your beans in 2015.
When the broad beans are around 4 ins tall you can begin to harden them off by putting them outside on sunny days(Hah!), bringing them inside overnight. You will need to do this for about 10 days as if you just put them out in one go they will be tender and probably die from frost bite if there is a cold snap.
Runner beans are a tropical veg. so cannot stand cold wind or frost so wait until late April early May before planting out.
The plants will need as much light as possible if they are already growing to stop them becoming drawn and spindly. Broad beans do not need any heat but runner beans do need warmth.
Good luck, you have your work cut out.
