holly tree

When cleaning my border, I found growing a wee holly tree. It must have germinated from next doors berries. I carefully dug it up and put it in a pot. It still looks OK. Will it start growing again in the spring?

  • Thanks dove, I even showed by neighbour. He was cuffed to bits too.

  • 50:50 chance of it being a female and bearing berries though.

    Is holly quite slow growing?

  • it can be, but give it good soil and good growing conditions and once its established it can stick on a foot of growth a year

Edd, the trees are either male or female, not both together. The busy bee buzzes from one to the other, doing what comes naturally. But not every year is a good berry year, and not every female tree is a good berry-bearer.

Sorry Edd I read it as plants being both male and female rather than either male or female!! I shall put my brain in next time.
