broad beans sown in autumn

  • is it possible to get a crop of beans in an unheated greenhouse any time of the year ?

  • I've never tried Kev, but my instinct says No, not here in the UK.  Most plants rely on light levels to produce flowers and most bean varieties need insects to pollinate them in order to produce seeds (beans).

I think that beans can be cropped all the year round nearer the equator as the light levels are higher and day and night are of more equal length.

Good thought that, I wonder if you could put a light in there like we used to do with the chickens to get them to lay through the winter, you could hand pollinate, who wants to try for a experiment, I cant because I sow carrot seeds in mine on the 1st Jan so dont have the room.
