Is it too late to plant a cherry blossom?
in Plants
I've got a cherry blossom, which has been grown from a seed which blew into my garden.
Its about 5 years old now, and grown in a pot entirely in that time. It needs planting into the ground, and rather than it sit in the pot another winter, I was wondering whether it would be ok to plant out at this time of year?

I think it will be happier in the ground, even at this stage. Make sure the drainage is good. It shouldn't be sitting in a sump.Drowning is probably the main risk.
In a pot excessive cold is also a risk.
A cold greenhouse, kept moist during winter is a safe bet too.
Its about 5 foot presently, and it saw some horrific winter weather a couple of years ago in the pot! It should hopefully be ok.
Dig to the depth of the pot, dig wider and fill around with John Innes rather than filling below?
Bit deeper than pot and wider. Mix JI with soil as too much of a contrast can be a bit of a shock, if that makes sense. Some add mychorizal fungi, but not sure if it works in cold. Others may be able to advise.
Now is a good time to plant a tree. I would add in a handful of feed into the planting hole.
Thanks all for the advice
