parsnips

why do some of my parsnips have a brown circle around the core and do not taste good?

  • If the browning is inside the parsnips themselves it might be parsnip blight - a bacterial condition.  It can be caused by not rotating the crops and the spores then stay in the soil and infect the next crop of parsnips the following year.

Don't compost affected roots, and grow your parsnips in a different part of the garden next year. image

  • It is all through the root, so must be blight although I've never grown parsnips there before. Thanks.
