Late flowering clematis
I live in Staffordshire and have a large west-facing trellis at the bottom of my garden on which I grow clematis.
My clematis Mrs George Jackman produced 2 new flowers in late October. These are still in bloom and there are now 2 new buds. Is this unusual for the time of year?

Hi Playlord
You're not alone - or rather your clematis isn't
My C. viticella Venosa Violacea, planted earlier this year on a north-facing fence, suddenly burst into bloom a fortnight ago - I think it was convinced that cold spell in August was really winter!
It won't come to any harm so enjoy, prune and feed as usual at the appropriate times and it'll be fine next year

Thanks for your reply dovefromabove.
Like yours, this clematis was planted earlier this year. So that may also have something to do with it. As you say, the weather has been fairly mild - just a couple of frosts so far. But strange that the other 7 varieties of clematis on this trellis stopped flowering a couple of months ago at least.
