Now then, now then....

Further to my post about taxus Coppershine I received a phone call from Bressingham Gardens today.  After a discussion with Adrian Bloom it seems I may have Corleys Copper Tip and was possibly  a name change from Coppershine.  Apparently Coppershine sounded  "familiar".   This conifer was bought some 30 plus years ago when Bressingham had several hundred different varieties .....conifers then were highly popular.....including some presented by individuals for Bressimgham to trial and market.  However, there is a possibility that my Coppershine may indeed be different and simply overlooked .....economic demand, etc.......

salino suggested Corleys  Copper Tip and the descriptions match, almost.  Bressingham have asked me to send a photo.  There are differences though I think.

i did (joke) that there must be some money in it for me if Coppershine is different enough...I think may be......so I hope nobody else out there has one

when I plant shrubs, conifers eto I always slightly bury the label so I will attempt to excavate.  A label will mean I'm in the money. image

So, I will meanwhile recommend Taxus baccatta Corleys Copper Tip

  • Fascinating Verdun image  Keep us informed.

As I've said before, Bressingham is close to where I used to live and it was frequently the venue for Sunday outings with the children - they loved Alan Bloom's steam engines and he was great with the children.  I enjoyed the gardens and nursery so everyone was happy (well, I didn't ask the then husband if he was happy but he seemed to enjoy it - sometimes we took his mum as well).

As I said, Alan was a great character and very much" hands on" in the nursery etc - but my memories of it are as not really the most orderly of places, so maybe something got overlooked or an error was made somewhere along the line ... image

..I'm delighted to hear they rung you back about it, still a slight mystery surrounds it,  but that makes it more interesting I think... lost in the mists of time...

..thanks for letting us all know...

..presumably they won't mind if you propagate and sell on.... in which case I think I should have one.....FREE..!  lol
