About five years ago I bought 10 of these, and planted them in two locations, one group in zz and the other also in shade (behind a rhododedron) but reaching full sun after 3ft. There has been a big difference in performance. The ones in full shade have not done well after second year. This year only one flowered at about 3ft the rest did not. The others, behind the rhodo, grew vigorously, reaching about 8 feet this year, one a little shorter.
Has anyone grown cardiocrinum giantium, giant Himalayan Lily?
This is the monocarpic variety (flowers only once then bites the dust). This Lily is the true giant of the family and can grow up to fifteen feet tall. I understand after it dies it's bublets flower after a few years. Seems very intriguing.
I grew my tree lilies in pots last summer, but I want to plant the bulbs out next year, should I leave them in their pots until spring and then replant them or should I get the bulbs out now (December) and dry them for next year? unfortunately the soil in the pots is very wet due to all the rain but I have moved them into the shed now so they hopefully will dry out a bit.
I would leave them in the pots until March. Let the compost dry out. Dry compost will protect the bulbs. Plant the bulbs out in March in enriched soil. (Lots of compost and fertiliser or well rotted FYM.)
