Over wintering a banana tree
I have inherited a large banana tree which now has 3 'trunks' and about 5 smaller trees growing from it. The trunks are 6ft high with leaf spans of a similar size. Last year I tightly packed the main trunks with straw and wrapped in horticultural fleece. All survived. This year I need to do the same but am wondering whether I could cut the crowns down to a more manageable size first.

This may be of some help but I guess it depends on the type of banana that you have. There is a bit at the bottom of the page about trimming stems to different heights.
You can reduce the height of the truck before wrapping it, I found my musa weeped
more than when just removing the leaves, so left it a day to'cry' before wrapping it up.
I give mine a return air ticket to the Bahamas.
