to plant or not to plant...

Hi fellow gardeners, is it too early/ late to plant shallot bulbs?

I have saved bulbs from the one's I harvested this year, they look healthy and are still firm. I live in North Yorks, we have had a couple of frosts and the weather does get below 0 degrees in winter, but is quite mild at the moment...to plant or not to plant that is the question...looking forward to your words of wisdom, many thanks.

I read somewhere the shortest day is a good time to plant shallots, me thinks it's either the 21st or 22nd December but that would depend on the weather...if the ground's frozen.,..it isn't going to happen...and I haven't planted that early before...but...there's always a first time...it will be interesting to read what other posters think...

I've some garlic and onions still to go out but think it may now be to late for the onions...
