..nothing to apologise for and you shouldn't take it so personally...we all make mistakes.... I do not believe there has ever been such a plant as Taxus Coppershine... it doesn't exist anywhere...you seem to be the only one claiming that it does....

...up to you to prove it I think...at least, it's a bit pointless continually recommending a plant that exists only in your garden...

..here are the Taxus baccata cultivars, find me a Coppershine on this list... or maybe it's changed its name...Corley's Coppertip is the only one similar...

..actually, on reflection, it is rather churlish of me not to apologise for insinuating that you cannot tell the difference between Coprosma and Taxus...however, I've not noted you mention Coprosma before although one would expect you to be aware of these in your part of the world...albeit they are somewhat expensive and select...

...so I do apologise for that... but one could be forgiven for mixing them up, as the description of Coprosma Coppershine, the foliage colour and growth habit,  does correspond to what you give for your plant....so I think it was a fair guess....

...I doubt anyone much is bothered, except us..lol.... so we shall see if we can find you a Taxus Coppershine to get you out of this one....

  • I used to live quite close to Bressingham (and am not that far away at the moment).  In my experience when Alan Bloom was at the helm they sold quite a few of their own cultivars which have never been more generally available.  As you say Verdun, the 'Garden Centre' is now part of the Wyevale chain.

However, Adrian Bloom is in charge of The Bressingham Gardens (as seen on Christine Walkden's prog the other day)  and he may well know of Taxus Coppershine - he can be contacted here http://thebressinghamgardens.com/autumn-2014-newsletter/ - postal address at the bottom. image

  • Well, it really does sound like an outstanding specimen. Thank you everyone for your input. I must admit i also looked at Corleys coppertip, which also seemed like a possibility and is offered fro sale.

Verdun, your garden and plant knowledge are admired. I'd love to see pics if your able.

...it shouldn't matter too much whether one is right or wrong on that...the point that's being missed I think is that we shouldn't be recommending plants to members seeking advice, that are no longer available, and perhaps haven't been so for some time.... I do think it's up to us to check first before we make suggestions...otherwise it's just bragging about our own gardens...

..I've got an Acer, like most have I expect.... but it's totally unavailable commercially...even the Dutch grower no longer has it (I've checked).... it would be absurd to recommend it to anyone.... that's the point really...

...perhaps we ought to concentrate on the 4 Yews that advice was required on.... as it hasn't been answered satisfactorily...

..Elegantissima seems quite nice...although a hedge of all this colour might be grating after a while.... just a thought...
