Pride of Madeira

I have three 9 month old Pride of Madeira plants in my garden (Central France). Because the winters can be quite harsh here I need to get them into pots and then indoors.

The problem is they have grown enormously, they are about a metre and a half wide and about 80cm tall so they will have to be drastically pruned. My question is how far can I cut them back so that they will flower next year? I need to cut them to at least half their size and probably more. Will this do too much damage, what is the limit?
