can anyone name this plant?

i bought this plant(tall plant ,dark red leaves behind bergamot with purple flowers) at Tatton park flower show last year and when i got home realised it didn't have a label can anyone name it please?

  • it hasn't flowered so I can't be certain but definately looks like the physocarpus and i didn't realise how big it gets oops hubby will be livid he's taken two weeks hols from wednesday lunchtime and we already took two trees out!

    It's a good border shrub that responds well to pruning so can be kept in bounds.  I know how easy it is to be tempted in sweetie shops like Tatton Flower Show but maybe next time you should chat with the grower about eventual size and cultivation needs before succumbing to temptation.

  • Hi,  I did chat to lady she said it was hardy and would do well in our slightly shady border did cut it back last year and will do this to keep it in bounds the border is around 8" wide and the fence is 6" i have just been re-arranging some of its companions to give a bit of room summer/autumn colour is beautiful especially when sun shining on it have monarda  and lambs ears in front and crocosmia behind thanks
