Deapth of Rose's...?????
Hello everyone.
I looking for help/advice regarding the deapth to plant Rose's.!
I have always been told to keep the budding union of roses above ground.
Three times recently I have seen on TV where they have said to plant the union below soil level.!
Is this correct.?
Regards and thanks to all.

Hello Macks-boy
Yes the old way was to keep the graft union above ground. Now the usual practice is to bury the graft union. The theory is that this helps prevent wind-rock and consequent suckering from the rootstock. It also allows the top growth to root into the soil and this will produce sturdier growth. I've been doing this for the past 20 years or so and it certainly works for me.

Thanks for speedy responce, I can now get on with transfering my roses to my new garden...
I still plant mine above (cos I always have) prune in November to reduce wind-rock & make sure they remain firmed in over winter.
I planted mine below!
