Falling rose leaves

Need a bit of a help and advice please?

I had a potted anniversary rose delivered by Interflora for our wedding anniversary. Lovely when it arrived. I put the rose in the lounge, after a few days the leaves started to fall off, then the twigs that were left after a few days started to turn black.

Complained to interflora, they sent another one. this time we put this in the kitchen, same thing happened.

I took both plants and cut them back, to the last 'green' bits left. Took them out of their compost, brushed them down and repotted them in compost, complete with feed. They both continued to turn black and have not died.

Is there something I did wrong? Or just bad luck twice? I thought i would try a rose bush from interflora but didn't turn out the way i had planned.

Any help or advice please?

Thank you

..I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your roses, although I wonder if there might have still been some life left in them, and that they could have been saved...  you should have taken them out of the pots, put them in a bowl of water and removed all the compost...shaking the roots.. and then repotted, keeping them dry for 24 hours before watering again...and rather obviously, making sure your pot has adequate drainage holes and that they do not stand in water..

...also, these roses are meant to grow out of doors...they are not really houseplants...they make poor often sickly houseplants unless you have a fair bit of skill in dealing with them...

..they are hardy plants...dislike house temperatures and atmosphere and need a lot of light...

...easily replaceable, they're cheap to buy in supermarkets if you want another one..

  • Hi Salino

Thank you very much for this. Appreciate it very much.

I did leave them outside for a bit, but as they were sold to be in the house, I brought them back in after a few days and then they continued to die and what was left green has not turned black.

    Which is a real shame.

Thanks again for your help and response, appreciate it.
