Hellebore Query

Hello please can you look at the photos of two hellebores.

I've not grown them before and am wondering if I need to cut back this year's larger leaves.

They seem to always lay flat on the ground.

As I purchased the plants as evergreen I was not expecting to remove any leaves.

  • I don't cut mine off until the flowers start to show early in the year, unless they are very tatty or diseased. Some still look attractive at this time of year, to my mind, like the one in the first photo.

I work round the garden in stages and cut off any hellebore leaves that are in the plot being weeded/cut back/tidied up.

So, anywhere between about 3 weeks ago and a bit too late image

I alway trim mine when the leaves "lie down" as i call it. Then you can see the lovely flowers better.
