Fungus Query

Hello please can you identify this fungus growing on the wooden container, and in the soil, in which my laurel is planted?

Do I need to eradicate it and if so how?

Your help would be appreciated

I can't name it, it's one of many that grows on damp dead wood.

Notice the way it's round the edges of the panels where water collects.

  • The laurel looks very healthy. This type of fungus only attacks dead wood - that's its function in life. Don't worry about it, just accept that the wood panels are going to rot away eventually.

  • Thank you Nutcut and landgirl. Do you know if the fungus will die back or get worse? I'm concerned as this is only one of six similar containers planted with laurel!

It will get worse as more wood rots. Wood is attractive but doesn't last long when wet.
