Shrub ID please

Can anyone identify the shrub that has these striking, lilac berries - the size of small ball bearings and almost metallic sheen to them? Can I grow a shrub from the berries?

It is Callicarpa, aka the beauty berry.

  • There was a thread called 'Callicarpa' where this plant was discussed not very long

ago. I'll 'ping' it to the top of the pile as several people including my self grow this

shrub and you may find your questions already answered on the thread or get  better

answers to your questions from people who grow the shrub on it. Hope this helps  image

  • Thanks to punkdoc and Daintiness for the ID and the bump of the other thread; yes, that's the one I have seen. I was given a small sprig of berries, so have planted some in a windowsill container and some outdoors in compost. Time will tell! image

..perfectly hardy and enjoys full sun and even tolerates a dryish site in summer... that's how it is in my neighbours garden... jam packed between shrubs I hardly notice it until it berries...then it's quite eye catching...

...I think you can grow these from seed.. but I'd rather buy one called 'Profusion'...

image Thanks Edd I will give it a go, if I can find oneimage

I was weary last night when posting and should have said, I am 650ft up and in a frost pocket. This limits our variety of growing and makes for a very short growing seasonimage
