  • They have no roots?  image

What were the roots like when you got them?

    Where did you get them?

What did you plant them in and how did you treat them after planting?

Wallflowers like free-draining situations - their name refers to the fact that they will happily grow in stone walls and cliff faces.

I grew them from seed, Planted them in a 12x12 square plastic pot in mp compost. The pot has a reservoir for water at the bottom, wonder if that could be why.

  • Might be - and overcrowding.  I'd be planting mine out in the garden about 12" apart.

What a shame.  Have you got any left that still have roots on?  If so I'd plant them out in the garden in a sunny spot.

Wall flowers like good drainage, if their feet are too wet they do rot. A mix of mpc and sharp sand and grit would be a lot better for them than just mpc, and with winter rain a water reservoir wouldn't work well.

Thanks Dove and Dave, I have managed to save quite a few so I will replant them in the garden.

  • Plant them fairly deep, as you would with other brassicas, and pinch the tops out - that way they'll bush out.

Looking forward to seeing them in the spring image
