fallen leaves

hi there, have a v small garden mostly decked with some border bedding so dont really have room for a composter. any recommendations on how to use fallen leaves rather then just throwing them into the garden waste sack?

I have tried the plastic bag method and whilst it works eventually it does take a lot longer than if you shred the leaves first and the hessian sacks keep them moist and are themselves biodegradable.
