Thank you once again, it is growing brilliantly otherwise and with the abundance of flowers last year I managed to make 12 bottles of Elderflower Champagne - gave some away for Xmas!
Wendy 284 . your Sambucus will be ok. I bought a second one last year and decided , it was going to get too big n the ground so I dug it up and potted it and to my horror it went all limp and I thought I had killed it. I left it a while and nothing,so I decided to cut it right down and I was amazed after a few weeks it's started to grow again!! So just leave it theyr as tough as old boots. Good luck!!
Hi everybody, found this thread via Google so hope no-one minds me bringing it back from the dead. I've just picked up a Sambucus nigra black lace from the garden centre half price. Given we had our first big of ground frost / frozen screen on the car this morning, what should I do with it? Pop it in the ground now or leave it in the pot either outdoor or in the shelter of the greenhouse/garage until spring?
Thanks in advance for any advice, don't want to kill it off now i've spent the money on it...
If you have frost forecast for tonight, which we do here, then simply do as @Hostafan1 says. They're tough. If there's another frost to come tonight, you might want to just tuck it somewhere safe and wait a day or two. Having said that - I've just split and replanted some primulas. They'll be fine though

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think that's the best solution - it'll be perfectly happy until the weekend, and it'll save you worrying about it when you should be working My little plants were all fine today, but another frost to come tonight here. When plants are already well climatised, and as long as they're hardy, it's fine, but it pays just to be patient with a newly acquired plant.
