Plant I/D

Very-new to gardening but got the bug and wife has seen this (see pic ) dont know what its called and can it grow in the north of England all help much appreciated

    Ours stays in the house, bloomed for the first time this year, grown from a seed sown about 3 or 4 years ago. Cant quite remember now.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor. 

  • It looks like a Strelitzier (sorry about the spelling)

    won't survive outside especially in the north of the country,  heated greenhouse or conservertory and put outside in the summer.

    Saw an abandoned house in Broken Hill, New South Wales where the garden was full of these in full bloom so definitely not one for outdoors anywhere in the UK let alone the north.  There's one in a conservatory down the road here though

    They do grow out of doors in the west country - but not up here that's for sure.  Nice as an indoor statement though.
