Plant ID

Hi

My friend bought a house with this plant in the garden of which she has given me a cutting. Neither of us know what it is and I would like to know more about it before I plant it in the garden so I can be sure to put it in the right place. The picture was taken today so you can see it still has flowers, it's really lovely. Sorry I can't seem to get the picture to stay the right way up!

Any information would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

I think it's an osteospermum. They can be tender in the winter, so I would keep cuttings frost free for the winter and plant out in the spring. From South Africa.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I agree with Busy Lizzie it's Osteospernum, full sun but sheltered position.

  • Thank you for your replies I'll go and find out more about it now before I decide where to plant it.
  • yes osteospermum - will almost certainly die if you leave it outside for the winter.  The GC's sell them in early summer for around £2.50 each and they do then give a good show all summer - I have two in containers still blooming.  Decision time.  Is it worth cutting them back and potting and seeing if they will survive in the cold greenhouse?
