Ours are just going in to their first winter - we have pruned anything that was heading in the wrong direction (usually skywards) and tied in extension growth along a frame - bit by bit, tightening the tie once a fortnight. Ours are pears, and we will be removing next years fruit early to let them concentrate on putting roots down.
The ones at Wisley are our inspiration, but we have a few years to go before the trunks get that big !
William pears saw some at Bonython Gardens locally the fruit on them was incredible large juicy pears and plenty of them used as hedging round vegetable beds. The trees were only a couple of years old.

What fruit are you growing ?

Wow, deeply impressed, hope you have great good luck with them - maybe a photo when they are in flower?
